We discuss here the three most common scams in Delhi. These are Fake Tourist Offices, Auto rickshaw, and Money Exchange.

Fake Tourist Offices:

A Fake Tourist Office scam is one of the common scams in Delhi. Some locations where most of the fake tourist offices occur are Paharganj, Near New Delhi Railway Station, Connaught Place, Red Fort and India Gate.

Behaviour of the Scammer: 

1. They act as Government officers and are very busy.
2. They behave more Friendly or too good to gain your trust and create confusion about your Original travel arrangement. 
3. They try to convince you as soon as possible to buy their service. 

Tips to save from Scammers: 

1. Always avoid a stranger who acts “too good” at first; it is a trick. 
2. Contact the original tour operator and hotel to confirm your booking. 

Tips from the book of the Service: 

1.  Read recent and old reviews of the tour operator before booking any service, and even check the number of reviews
2. Before booking any service: Make sure this company is verified or not to the given Accreditation: Accredited agent, TAAI, Ministry of Tourism of the government, Indian Association of Tour Operators, TAFI, OTOAI, and Adtoi. All are trusted Accreditation. 
3. Go to the website and go to the “about us” page. Read it carefully and check the Duration of the website. 

1. The Best method is a reference check (A known person who has already taken service from any tour operator). 
2. Check your Email; make sure it is the company’s email account. 
3. Before payment: make sure this account is current (company shows), not personal(A person’s name). 
4. Avoid paying through WhatsApp. 

Auto rickshaw, Local and taxi scams : 

Auto rickshaw, local, and Taxi scams are another popular and common scam in Delhi. 

How do you identify : 

1. Hotel Book: They behave too well and ask you about hotel booking. They tell you that your hotel is very far away. Do not know your hotel and prefer another hotel. (For commission)
2. Closed tourist Place: For example, they tell you that Redfort is closed and offer you an alternative place like a shopping place (To take a commission).
3. Overcharging: It is one of the common strategies of the Drivers. Most drivers, after arriving at the destination, try to charge more than they talked about during the booking (We face this problem). 

Tips to protect you from scams : 

1. Always prefer Uber and Ola ride-hailing apps from the Airport and train station.  
2. If you are travelling via Uber, Ola and other transport, the final price will be displayed on your app after you arrive at your destination.

Money Exchange : 

1. Most of the money exchange agencies did not accept old dollars. Some agencies were ready to accept old dollars, on the condition of a low rate. We faced the same problem in Delhi and Kolkata, even with Thomas Cook. 
2. We were not able to exchange money at the bank. We exchanged money at a different agency. One agency gave a low rate because this agency is certified and provides us with a receipt. We exchanged some currency due to requrement of money.

Tips for Money Exchange: 

1. You need to carry new dollars; otherwise, you will face the same problem. 
2. Before exchanging money, see the actual value of the dollar in the Indian market and clarify via Google and Wise. 

Note: Do not trust any Unknown person. Nothing is free there; You need to pay for anything. Otherwise, you will repeat the same mistake.
